Monday started off in a "rather bizarre way" for a Barrie business owner as his truck and trailer were stolen, say city police, but later recovered.

Just before 7 a.m. yesterday, officers were contacted about an overnight theft of the pickup truck and trailer from the rear compound of a pool company on Anne Street South.

"From the investigation that followed, it is believed that the person or persons responsible were able to access a fenced-in compound where the 2019 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck and dump-style trailer were parked sometime after 6:00 p.m. on Sunday night," Barrie police said in a release.

"The truck and trailer were then driven through a locked gate which caused approximately $3000 damage."

Later at 8:38 a.m., officers got a call about an abandoned pickup truck at a Brock Street parking lot.

Police then received another call at 9:56 a.m., this time for a dump trailer that had been left at a residence on Big Bay Point Road, east of Yonge Street.

"With information that was received from concerned citizens, police determined that the truck and trailer were the combination that had earlier been reported stolen from the Anne Street business," officers say.

"The owner of the truck and trailer was notified, and although his day started off in a rather bizarre way, he was able to attend both scenes, retrieve his stolen property and salvage what could have been a very disastrous day for both him and his business."
