Two Amazon facilities in Peel partially closed due to COVID-19 outbreak

No word how many employees are affected

Amazon warehouses in Bolton and Brampton have been ordered partially closed by Peel Region Public Health after five or more recent COVID-19 cases at the facilities in the last two weeks. The closures will remain in place for at least 10 days.

There is no word on how many employees are impacted by the closures. Affected workers must self-isolate. A partial closure applies to a mass dismissal of a shift or work area.

Health officials in Peel have said the region’s high case counts are being driven by workplace exposures.

“Peel Public Health will be reviewing workplaces that meet the closure criteria on a daily basis to determine what action is required,” the health unit said in a statement. “Absent legislated paid sick days, employers required to close under these provisions are strongly recommended to provide paid leave for impacted employees.”

Toronto Public Health also announced plans last week to implement workplace closures to limit transmission of the virus. Health officials said several businesses are under investigation but none have been closed.
