Two Barrie Police Service members test positive for COVID-19

Did not have close contact with the public

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has declared an outbreak at the Barrie Police Service after two of its members tested positive for COVID-19.

Two staffers have received notification of a positive test. They work in a small and specialized unit within the Service and do not come into contact with the general population through their work.

“Through contact tracing and a comprehensive investigation, the Simcoe-Muskoka District Health Unit has verified that our Service has implemented all the necessary precautions to contain the outbreak and spread of the virus,” said Police Chief Kimberley Greenwood. “The two members have not had close contact with the public and there is no risk to the community of contracting the virus from them.”

A workplace outbreak is declared when two or more connected cases are reported within 48 hours.
