A Barrie man is up on charges after reportedly assaulting an Uber driver and attempting to steal the vehicle.
South Simcoe Police were called on Tuesday night around 9:30 p.m. to a possible robbery in progress in the area of County Road 88 and Highway 400.
"An Uber driver reported he was assaulted by a passenger who attempted to take his vehicle," officers wrote in a release on Wednesday.
"The male victim managed to bring the vehicle to a safe stop during the assault. The victim ran from the scene with his keys and called police. Within minutes, the suspect attempted to steal two other vehicles from passing motorists who stopped to help who they thought was a stranded driver. Those victims also managed to flee to safety. Upon police arrival, the suspect was located at the scene and arrested. There were no serious injuries."
A 29-year-old was charged with 11 offences including:
- Assault
- Robbery
- Motor vehicle theft
- Forcible confinement
- Possession of property obtained by crime
- Possession of suspected cocaine
He was held for a bail hearing.
