OPP upgrade charges to second-degree murder for Wasaga Beach man

Huronia West OPP have upgraded charges against an accused to second-degree murder in connection to an incident in Wasaga Beach earlier this year.

On February 25, police responded to a report of an unconscious individual in critical condition on Homewood Avenue.

Then on March 6, a search warrant was executed at a residence. A 46-year-old Wasaga Beach man was arrested with ten charges including aggravated assault. OPP say weapons and cocaine were also seized.

According to officers, the victim succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead on Monday.

And on Wednesday, the accused was charged with the following:

  • Second Degree Murder, section 235(1)
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibited Order - Six Counts, section 117.01(1)
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm - Four Counts, section 91(1)
  • Careless Storage of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition, section 86(1)
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition - Three Counts, section 92(2)
  • Assault - Two Counts, section 266
  • Fail to Comply Undertaking, section 145(4)

He was held for a bail hearing in Barrie today.

The Huronia West Crime Unit is continuing this investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
