Wasaga Beach man wanted on sex assault, attempt murder charges in custody

Police found the victim at a residence in Stayner
OPP

Huronia West OPP say the man who was the subject of an arrest warrant in connection with the sexual assault and stabbing of a female in Stayer is in custody.

On July 31, 2022, just before midnight, police responded to a 9-1-1 call at an address and located a person inside the residence suffering from serious injuries. Police say the individual was sexually assaulted and then stabbed. She was transported to a local hospital and later air-lifted to trauma centre.

An arrest warrant was issued for a 31-year-old Wasaga Beach man.

On Friday evening, with the assistance of Bracebridge OPP, members of Huronia West OPP arrested the suspect without incident. He was held for a bail hearing and remanded in custody. Police thank the public for the tips they received which assisted in locating the suspect.

At the time the arrest warrant was issued, police said the suspect was to face the following charges:

  • Attempt to commit murder
  • Aggravated sexual assault
  • Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court
  • Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm - two counts
  • Theft of motor vehicle
