With stress levels climbing across Canada, Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is launching a new virtual support group to help adults manage anxiety and build healthier coping strategies—without leaving home.

The Stress & Coping Group, part of Waypoint’s Ontario Structured Psychotherapy (OSP) program, begins Wednesday, October 15. Sessions run weekly from 1 to 2:30 p.m. via Zoom and are open to anyone 18 or older experiencing stress in their daily life.

“This group was created because we know so many people are quietly struggling—whether it’s work, relationships, finances, or mental health,” said Jennifer Bodara, a clinician with Waypoint. “We’ve seen a steady increase in people reaching out for help, and this group is a proactive, supportive way to meet that need.”

Stress Is Surging—And Canadians Are Feeling It

Recent surveys show nearly 60% of Canadian workers report feeling stressed “a lot of the day,” a rate 18% higher than the global average. Anxiety levels are also on the rise, with 42% of respondents in a Mental Health Research Canada poll saying their anxiety had increased over the past month.

Waypoint’s virtual group aims to meet this growing demand for support in a format that’s accessible, non-judgmental, and flexible.

“People don’t have to get in the car or rearrange their lives to attend,” Bodara said. “They can join from the comfort of their home, and each week we’ll explore a different topic—from problem-solving and communication to self-compassion and stress tracking.”

What Participants Can Expect

Over 12 weeks, the group will cover a wide range of skills designed to help participants better understand and manage stress:

  • Identifying stressors and coping strategies
  • Assertive communication and social support
  • Managing physical and interpersonal stress
  • Thinking strategies and values-based action
  • Self-compassion and long-term planning

The group is geared toward individuals experiencing stress themselves, rather than support persons or family members. Bodara emphasized the sessions are confidential and designed to foster a safe space for personal growth.

How to Join

Whether you're facing everyday pressures or navigating a more difficult season, the Stress & Coping Group offers a chance to connect, learn, and heal.
