1. The Loss Of A National Treasure
Singer and songwriter Gordon Lightfoot died this week at age 84. Born in Orillia, he was a frequent performer at the Mariposa Folk Festival. Ian MacLennan catches up with the festival's Pam Carter to talk about the folk music icon.
2. How To Prevent Garage Fires
There have been 7 garage fires in Barrie since the year started, leading to more than $2 million in damage. Will Konken checks in with Deputy Fire Chief Carrie Clark to talk about what is causing them and how to keep it from happening to you.
3. The Market Is Heading Outside
The first outdoor Barrie Farmer's Market of 2023 is this Saturday from 8 AM until noon. The market will feature all of the vendors we have come to love, as well as a mental health awareness initiative in partnership with the Barrie Police and Barrie Public Library. Ian MacLennan finds out more from the market's Jamie Grant and Sgt Trevor Marsh of the Barrie Police Service.
4. McHappy Day Is Back
McHappy Day returns to McDonald's next week to raise funds for Ronald McDonald Houses across the country, as well as the RVH's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Dale and Charlie from Kool FM sit down and chat about this year's event with Jason O'Neill and Trevor McKee from McDonald's In Barrie and Pam Ross from the RVH Foundation.
5. It's Time For The Sex Talk ... With Grandma?
Sexually transmitted infections among Canadians over the age of 60 have increased by 240%, which means having the sex talk with your grandparents is more important than ever. To help you out, Jems Condoms has introduced what it calls Fucking Old Candies to help get the conversation started. Sue Johansen from the Sex with Sue show tells our MJ more about it.
