Environment Canada lifted a winter storm warning for Simcoe County and most of Muskoka Saturday morning, but says more winter weather is expected.
They say a "multi-day lake effect snow squall event" is set to start this evening through at least Monday and likely into Tuesday.
Areas include:
- Barrie – Collingwood – Hillsdale
- Midland – Coldwater – Orr Lake
- Orillia – Lagoon City – Washago
- Parry Sound – Muskoka
- Dufferin – Innisfil
- Haliburton
According to the weather agency, heavy snowfall totals of 15 to 50 cm by Monday evening, with rates of 3 to 5 cm per hour.
"Strong westerly winds [will] bring much cooler air to the region," Environment Canada said.
"Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow."
The agency says the heavy and blowing snow will create "significant" reduced visibility, creating difficult travel conditions.
"Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve," Environment Canada added.
