Woman YRP say was kidnapped at gunpoint located at Barrie home

A woman York Regional Police say was kidnapped in Vaughan was located along with two suspects at a home in Barrie.

Police say they responded to a call shortly after 11 p.m. on Tuesday about a person who was forcing a woman into a SUV at gunpoint in the area of Steeles Avenue and Yonge Street.

Investigators learned the woman had been standing outside a restaurant when she was snatched by a person armed with a gun. When a passerby tried to intervene, police say the suspect fired shots toward him and fled the scene in the SUV being driven by another individual.

Heavily armed police from York Region converged on a home on Daphne Crescent in Barrie on Wednesday afternoon, where they located the woman and the suspects. She was taken to hospital with injuries and later released.

A 36-year-old Toronto man has been charged with the following:

  • attempted murder
  • sexual assault
  • forcible confinement
  • discharge restricted firearm or prohibited firearm with intent
  • use of firearm during commission of an indictable offence

A 17-year-old male from Brampton has been charged with the following:

  • party to sexual assault/kidnapping
  • forcible confinement
  • fail to comply with a judicial release order
