Woman killed in fiery crash in Innisfil

A fiery two-vehicle crash in Innisfil early Saturday claimed the life of a 33-year-old Barrie woman.

Shortly before 2 a.m., South Simcoe Police (SSP) responded to the area of Yonge Street, south of 9th Line, where first responders located two vehicles, a 2023 Volkwagen Jetta and a 2006 Chev Impala, both engulfed in flames.

The two occupants of the Jetta were removed from their vehicle and taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Despite life-saving efforts of a citizen and first responders, police say the female driver of the other vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for seven hours while the SSP Traffic Unit investigated the collision.
