Barrie police were called to a Wellington Street parking lot shortly after 7:30 Wednesday morning where they found a female sleeping behind the wheel of a car that was parked in front of the receiving door of a business.
"Upon arrival of police, it was determined that the driver, a 38-year-old female of no fixed address, was believed to be under the influence of drugs. She was arrested for impaired driving and taken to Barrie Police Headquarters where she was interviewed by a qualified Drug Recognition Evaluator," police stated in a news release.
After speaking to a witness, officers were told that prior to police being notified, the woman driver had also struck a parked car.
"The female’s driver’s licence has been suspended for 90-days and the involved motor vehicle has been impounded for 7-days in accordance with the Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension program. She has been charged with Impaired Driving and Dangerous Operation of a Motor and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie on December 20, 2023," according to the news release.
