Working smoke alarms alert tenants to fire in multi-residential building in Barrie

There were no injuries

The fire was small and contained to a vacant unit but the Barrie Fire Department says other tenants in the eight-unit building at 179 Bayfield Street were alerted about the problem thanks to working smoke alarms.

Crews were called to the scene shortly before 1:30 Monday morning.

Everyone was able to get out of the building safely, Fire Chief Cory Mainprize told Barrie 360, and they were allowed to return to their units hours later.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
