World-class racing yacht moored in Collingwood Harbour for summer
Ocean Racing IMOCA 60 racing yacht, EMIRA IV, will be docked in Collingwood Harbour for the summer season

A cutting-edge offshore racing yacht has arrived in Collingwood, marking a unique moment for the town’s waterfront and sailing community.

The Canada Ocean Racing IMOCA 60 EMIRA IV is moored in Collingwood Harbour for the summer season, giving residents and visitors a rare opportunity to see one of the most advanced monohull vessels in the world up close. Officials say the arrival is believed to be among the first visits by a foiling IMOCA 60 yacht to Canadian waters.

At more than 18 metres in length and capable of speeds exceeding 70 km/h, the high-performance vessel represents the leading edge of offshore sailing technology. Its presence in the harbour is expected to draw attention to Collingwood as a destination for marine innovation and sport.

The campaign behind EMIRA IV is led by Collingwood resident and offshore sailor Scott Shawyer, founder of Canada Ocean Racing. Shawyer is working toward an ambitious goal of becoming the first Canadian to complete the Vendée Globe in 2028, a solo, non-stop, around-the-world yacht race widely considered one of the toughest challenges in sailing.

Through the campaign, Shawyer aims to motivate others to push beyond their limits, asking: “What if you gave yourself permission to find out what you’re capable of?”

The yacht has already competed internationally, including in The Ocean Race Europe, and is part of a broader initiative that promotes sustainability through partnerships focused on water conservation and innovation.

While docked in Collingwood, EMIRA IV will serve as a focal point for community engagement. Planned programming includes public viewing opportunities, educational outreach, and guided tours designed to introduce people to offshore racing and marine technology.

Free 20-minute guided tours will be offered on June 13 and June 20, giving participants a chance to step aboard the vessel and learn about its design and mission. Space is limited and advance registration is required.

The Town of Collingwood says it is working closely with Canada Ocean Racing to ensure safe harbour operations while maximizing public access throughout the yacht’s stay. The vessel is expected to remain in the harbour through the summer training period before returning to Europe for further competition preparation.
