The City of Barrie is making changes to align yard waste collection with residents’ regular collection days. Starting Monday, June 17, residents are asked to place yard waste materials curbside by 7 a.m. on their regular collection day of their yard waste week (alternate to their garbage collection week). Yard waste will be collected before end of day Friday. Yard waste collection occurs every other week from April through November.
Acceptable yard waste containers include:
- garbage cans up to 120 L (must have exterior handles)
- paper leaf and yard waste bags
Please note that green bins, blue and grey recycling boxes, plastic bags and cardboard boxes are not acceptable yard waste containers in Barrie.
Yard waste collection tip: Roll the tops of the yard waste bags closed and place the bags as close together as possible at the curb to help keep them dry. If bags become damaged by weather, the contractor will still collect the bags. Should a bag break while being transferred, the contractor is responsible for cleanup.
Residential yard waste can also be dropped off at City of Barrie's landfill site at 272 Ferndale Drive North. There is no charge for the first 100kg of each load. The remainder of the weight over 100kg is $60/tonne. To learn more about curbside collection in Barrie, visit barrie.ca/CurbsideCollection
