Yes, Virginia, there might be a Halloween in Barrie

City hopes to get direction from the health unit this week

Will it be trick or treat for the kids on Halloween night?

We could learn from the local health unit this week.

That’s according to Access Barrie Executive Director Rebecca James-Reid when asked by Councillor Jim Harris if Halloween was going ahead in the City despite COVID-19.

James-Reid said the issue was a topic of discussion at an emergency control group on Friday and the health unit indicated there would be an update this week.

“There was no directive that Halloween would be cancelled. But there has been some warnings from Dr. Gardner that it’s probably proceed with caution.”

Dr. Charles Gardner is the Simcoe Muskoka Medical Officer of Health.

James-Reid said the City has been getting a lot of inquiries about Halloween through Service Barrie and online channels.

“People find that lack of direction a little bit awkward for them. If you are going to open the door and give candy out or send your children out.”
