York Regional Police have released video of a takedown involving three suspected teen carjackers.
On April 6, police responded to a reported carjacking around 2 a.m. in Markham.
"The victim was walking to her vehicle when a suspect approached and pulled her away. A second suspect then entered her vehicle. The victim struggled with the suspect and her husband joined in to assist. As suspects attempted to flee in the victim’s vehicle, they crashed into another vehicle in the parking lot while the husband attempted to pull the suspect out of the car," police said in a news release on Friday.
Police said the suspects fled to a white Acura parked nearby and driven by a third suspect.
Investigators determined the Acura was stolen in Peel Region earlier this month and was used in a car jacking April 7 of a BMW in Toronto. The suspects in that carjacking were charged by Toronto Police on April 12 after crashing into police vehicles.
The following day, investigators, with the assistance of the Emergency Response Unit, located the stolen Acura in a parking lot with three suspects inside. Police utilized flashbangs, which produces a flash of light and loud noises.
"The suspects attempted to flee on foot, tossing a loaded firearm. All suspects were taken into custody and the stolen vehicle was recovered," police stated.
An 18-year-old male from Toronto and two male youths, 15 and 16, were charged with numerous firearm and property offences.
At the time, the older teen was on a release order for unrelated charges.
