Young Girl Severely Injured During Barrie Public School Event

Student Required Emergency Surgery Following "Isolated Incident"

The Barrie Police confirm no one will be charged after a girl was hurt so badly inside a Barrie public school that she required surgery.

The incident was originally reported as an assault, while Barrie Police have since determined it may have been accidental and done without malice.

The 12-year-old girl was injured at Maplegrove Public School on November 8th, according to police spokesperson Peter Leon, suffering a broken leg and pelvis. The incident occurred during the school day and within the school itself during an event. It is believed to be an isolated incident.

The young girl was rushed to hospital and later taken to Toronto for emergency surgery. Police say an investigation has concluded and no charges will be laid.
