Youth arrested following a stabbing near an Orillia high school

Two schools were put in a hold and secure during the search for the suspect

A suspect has been arrested after an altercation between two youths near an Orillia high school resulted in one of them being stabbed.

Police responded to the area of Orillia Secondary School just before 1:30 on Wednesday afternoon. A youth was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Prior to the arrest, a containment was set up in the area with the assistance of the OPP Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit members, but the suspect was located before the start of the track.

Orillia Secondary School and Samuel de Champlain Elementary School were put on a hold and secure as a precaution during the search.

Police say there is no ongoing threat to student or public safety.

The identity of the suspect will be withheld as they are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
