OPP: 17-year-old faces charges, including attempt to commit murder, after shooting at Orillia residence

A 17-year-old is facing charges, including attempted murder, after a firearm-related incident in Orillia on Tuesday.

Around 2:00 a.m., Orillia OPP responded to a 9-1-1 call for reports of gunshots at a residence. Officers attended the area and located apparent gunshot holes.

The suspect whose identity is protected under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with:

  • Attempt to commit murder
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

The youth has been held in custody.

While a 19-year-old Orillia man is up on one charge - unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm.

Police say he has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Orillia court at a later date.

Investigators believe this is an isolated incident and there are no concerns for public safety.
