We have now been social distancing for the better part of 3 months. For many people birthdays have passed, as well as Easter and Mother's Day. Celebrating a milestone or a holiday while following safe social distancing protocols can be tricky, but we've got a few suggestions on how to make sure your Dad has a perfect Father's Day all while staying safe.
Meat
You know what dad's love? Grilling. Do you know what goes great on a grill? Meat. Here in Barrie we have several amazing butchers, and some are offering Father's Day packages. Why not splurge and get dad that Tomahawk Steak he's always dreamed about? Come on....he's worth it.
Indoor Putting Green
Golf courses reopened in Ontario on May 19, so dad may want to work on his short game before hitting the links. Indoor putting greens are available at different price points and will give your dad something to do in all this spare time we've got lately.
Cooler
For whatever reason, dad's love coolers. They love lugging them, they love talking about them, they love showing off how much their coolers can hold. If you get your dad a cooler for Father's Day, he'll love you too. Almost as much as he loves his cooler.
Power Tools
One unexpected bonus of social isolation is that a 'lot' of projects around the house are finally getting finished. If your dad has a honey-do list a mile long, he might need some shiny new tools to help him accomplish it. If you're not sure what he needs exactly, a gift card is always good.
Car Detailing
If you've ever spilled something, gotten crumbs everywhere, or otherwise made a mess in your dad's car (which we can pretty much guarantee you have, cause every kid does) this is a good way to make up for it.
BBQ Accessories
As I previously mentioned, dad's love grilling. And nothing takes your grill game to the next level like new BBQ accessories. Tongs, spices, sauce - you've got a lot of options in this category. Just prepare for your dad to spend a couple of hours standing at the grill with his hands on his hips with a huge smile on his face.
Dad's Day Crate
If your dad is the kind of guy who likes a little bit of everything (and also likes to support local business) the Dad's Day Crate is for him. Some of the items included are a custom cutting board, maple hickory BBQ sauce, beer & pretzel cookies and organic cotton candy.
Commission a Family Painting
Some dad's like to show off a tough exterior, but most are real softies at heart - especially when it comes to their families! Do you have a favourite photo of you and your dad? Have a local artist turn it into a painting. Your dad will cherish it.
Craft Beer Tasting Box
Expand dad's palate with a craft beer tasting box from J'Adore Fine Cheese. The downtown Barrie cheese shop releases new tasting boxes every week, or you can build your own by ordering your favourites from their website. Beer, cheese and chocolate...what's not to like?
A Personalized Fire Pit
Summer is the time for sitting around a campfire, maybe roasting a marshmallow or two. Local artist Dee Ayotte creates these beautiful fire pit walls, which you can customize with any design or colour. Your dad might never leave the backyard again.
Sweet Treats
Does your dad have a sweet tooth? Unbelievabowl Barrie has the perfect gift for him then. A limited-edition Father's Day "Dad Bowl" is a chocolate-peanut butter smoothie bowl with strawberries, walnuts, pretzels, Reese's Pieces and Nutella. If you're looking to elevate yourself to undisputed favourite child status, this is how you do it.
