2020 Ontario Winter Games: 100 Days and Counting

Over 3,500 Participants Expected in Orillia

The powers that be are counting down the days to the big game.

At a special celebration at the Orillia Waterfront Centre Tuesday evening, organizers marked 100 days until the 2020 Ontario Winter Games in Orillia. The City of Orillia will be hosting the Ontario Winter Games from February 27th to March 1st, in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries, and is expected to generate $5 million in economic activity for the area.

. “As we get closer to the Ontario Winter Games, I want to thank the City of Orillia, the volunteers, and everyone who’s been involved in getting us here,” said Lisa MacLeod, Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries. “Your dedication and support will make these Games an event to remember, and will leave a positive, lasting impact on the community and economy. I look forward to counting down the days with you, and cheering on our athletes in the new year”

The event is expected to draw some 3,500 participants to the region. Twenty-seven different sporting events are expected over teh four-day event. New to this year’s Games, biathlon, field hockey, futsal, and karate.
