A large police presence in several south end Barrie locations on Tuesday evening, which started with a report of two men fighting, possibly with weapons involved in the area of Mapleview Drive East and Huronia Road.

When police arrived, one man was taken into custody who allegedly made threats towards the arresting officers. A second male fled into the woods but was quickly rounded up by the canine unit.

"Additional information was received that involved a third male and a female who were unknown, and that they may have taken two children that belonged to the first male arrested," police said in a news release.

Officers ended up at a home on Shalom Way where the children were found unharmed.

A man and a woman at the residence were taken into custody.

Due to several complex issues that resulted before and after their arrest, they were both transported to the hospital for treatment, said police.

"Investigators learned that the four adults were all known to one another and spent the afternoon together before deciding to walk to a nearby convenience store with the children. The initial fight was determined to be consensual, and no weapons were involved," according to the news release.

Two males were charged with two counts of causing a disturbance, and the first male arrested was also charged with two counts of uttering threats related to alleged threats made to police. The third man found at the home on Shalom Way was charged with two counts of obstructing police, and the female was later released unconditionally.
