Things to do this long weekend
With everyone out and about thanks to our region moving into phase three, it was more important than ever for people to continue social distancing practices and thankfully, we have the low numbers to prove we did! You, awesome people, deserve this long weekend! Here are a few things to keep you busy for the next few days.

With everyone out and about thanks to our region moving into phase three, it was more important than ever for people to continue social distancing practices and thankfully, we have the low numbers to prove we did! You, awesome people, deserve this long weekend! Here are a few things to keep you busy for the next few days.

Go to the Movies

You heard that right! Cineplex is beginning to reopen select theatres in our area and South Barrie is one of them! There will be a huge number of extra safety measures in place (obviously) including enhanced cleaning, limiting concession to core items, and reserved seating to ensure social distancing. They are showing new releases you might have missed along with classic summer blockbusters like Jaws and Jurrasic Park. Oh, and tickets are only $5!

Take a stroll downtown

While it isn't quite finished yet, the first few sections of Barrie's downtown construction renovations are complete and it looks fantastic! Grab your mask, head to the heart of the city, and make a day of it! Grab a coffee from Casa Cappuccino, do some shopping at Stuff, and wrap it all up with dinner (and drinks) at Grillicious.

Get closer to nature

Need a break from all the hustle and bustle of city life? You're just a short trip away from a few beautiful parks, right here in Ontario. First up in the provincial category, Algonquin Park is over 7,500 square kilometres of calming, peaceful tranquillity. If you don't mind a bit more of a drive, take a trip to Bruce Peninsula National Park, you will not be disappointed.

Walk among the sunflowers

Posted by Kernel Simpson's on Wednesday, July 22, 2020

Let's face it, unless you happen to have a portrait studio in your house, your Instagram game may have taken a bit of a hit over the past few months. Thankfully, Kernal Simpson's Farm is opening its sunflower fields this weekend and it is the perfect way to snap some easy selfies. Be sure to pick up some delicious sweet corn while you're at it!

Go for a weekend getaway

Filling your entire weekend with activities is easy. Well, it's easy if you head to Horseshoe Resort for a few days. Spend a few hours on the green, cool off at Horshoe Lake, and grab dinner at the Crazy Horse, all from your home base at either The Inn, the Copeland House, or the Slopeside Condos.

Work on your short game

If you read the last entry and started daydreaming at the mere mention of golf, it might be time for you to spend a few hours taking in the sun and smacking a few white balls around. You're never wanting for courses in Barrie with Innisbrook, The Wilds, and Tangle Creek being just the very tip of the iceberg.

Get some culture

No, we don't mean yogurt. You might be the type of person who likes to spend an afternoon (or longer) checking out the work of some of our area's most talented individuals. That has been a bit tricky recently, but no longer! The Maclaren Art Centre is once again accepting visitors to check out its gallery and they also have a collection of at-home activities for the kids through their Digital Summer Activities Series.
