The holiday spirit is in the air. For those of you looking to jump-start this jolly season, have a look at some of these festive events going on nearby this weekend.

1. Barrie's Tree Lighting And Santa Claus Parade

Kick-off the holiday season with the most traditional event of all this Saturday. The entire event will take place from about 3:30 pm- 8:00 pm. If you're looking for a whole day of family fun, you can come to Meridian Place earlier on for musical entertainment, face painting, balloon animals, an outdoor holiday film and free hot chocolate with a donation to the Barrie Food Bank or the Rock 95 & Kool FM Toy Drive.

2. 30th Annual Candy Cane Fair

This event is a little bit of a drive outside of Barrie, but not bad to keep in mind if you're looking for an excuse to take a day trip.

Kids ages 4 to 10 will be escorted through a gift shop by their own personal elf shopper. Tickets are used to buy each gift for $2 each, with a maximum of 4 tickets per child. There will also be a bake sale, craft table, entertainment and photos with Santa.

The event will run from 9 am-2 pm at the Headwaters Health Care Centre. Proceeds from the Fair will support the purchase of much-needed equipment for the centre.

3. Christmas High Tea and Bazaar

On Sunday from 12 pm-3pm Fitness Infuzion for Women is hosting a high tea party. You've got to love an excuse to rock a fascinator. The event will also include a raffle table and local vendors.

All proceeds will go to their "Families In Need" campaign in hopes of giving a Christmas to 25 (or more) kids who otherwise would not have had one.

Lotus Natural Living is one of the vendors that will be there.

4. 2nd Annual Holiday Soirée

This event is free to attend and will include over 30 vendors who are all local to Simcoe County. There will be a cash bar, silent auction tables and a swag bag giveaway to the first 30 guests to arrive. All funds raised will be donated to Gilda's Club of Simcoe County.

The event is from 10 am-2 pm at the Ferndale Banquet Hall.

An example of some work to be expected from the vendors.

5. Holiday Ornament Drop-In

Cabin Calligraphy will be at Homestead Artisan Bakery and Cafe this Saturday from 12 pm-2 pm personalizing Christmas Ornaments. You can choose from a variety of styles and colours, and then sit back and relax in the cafe while you wait for your ornament to be completed. Who do you have on your shopping list that would love a special, personalized gift?

Cabin holiday cards & tags will also be available for purchase. Remember to keep your receipt from any ornament purchase to receive a holiday discount at Homestead.

6. Timothy Christian School Bazaar and Auction

This annual event will take place this Saturday from 9 am-2 pm. The event is free and will include a silent and live auction, crafts, jewelry, apparel, Dutch Store, woodworking, home decor and a floral table.
