South Simcoe Police laid a total of nine charges in two separate incidents about a kilometre apart.
On March 5 at around 12:45 p.m., officers on patrol on Sideroad 5 in Innisfil were alerted to a vehicle associated with a driver required to operate with an ignition interlock device. Police conducted a traffic stop and determined that the vehicle was not equipped with the required device for the driver.
As a result, a 24-year-old man from Orangeville was arrested and charged with operating a conveyance while prohibited, a criminal code offence, and one count of having an improper braking system under the Highway Traffic Act.
The licence plates on the vehicle were seized, the vehicle was impounded for 45 days.
The accused is to appear in court at a later date.
About 30 minutes after that incident, officers responded to a collision near Innisfil Beach Road and Highway 400, where they found a vehicle in the ditch. There were no injuries reported.
As officers investigated, a tow truck operator approached police soon after and told them his arm and food had been struck by a passing vehicle as it was slowing down for a red light near the collision scene. Police conducted a traffic stop, where they detected a strong odour of alcohol from the driver and observed signs of impairment. Police said officers located open alcoholic beverages in the centre console of the vehicle.
A 68-year-old Coldwater man was charged with two impaired driving offences, dangerous operation, failing to slow down and proceed with caution for an emergency vehicle or tow truck, driving a vehicle with an open container of liquor, driving a vehicle with an open container of liquor readily available, and driving a vehicle without a valid permit.
