Barrie police have charged a 27-year-old woman after officers on patrol downtown on Saturday, April 11, spotted a vehicle going the wrong way on Clapperton Street, a one-way northbound road.
Police conducted a traffic stop, and while speaking with the drivers, officers detected an odour of alcohol and noticed several opened and unopened cans of alcohol within the driver's reach.
Believing the driver may be impaired, police administered a roadside breath test, which registered a fail, resulting in the woman's arrest.
She was charged with impaired operation, impaired operation - 80 above, and failing to comply with a probation order.
As a result of the charges, the accused was also given a 90-day driver's licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
"Impaired driving isn’t just about charges. It’s about keeping our roads safe for everyone. Driving impaired by either alcohol or drugs is never worth the risk or the consequences," police said in a news release. "Barrie police encourage the public to call 911 if you suspect a driver is impaired."
