OPP investigating Oro-Medonte collision that gave pedestrian life-threatening injuries

Orillia OPP are investigating a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in Oro-Medonte that occurred Thursday night.

Just after 10 p.m., officers responded to a report that a vehicle struck a pedestrian sitting on the roadway beside his bicycle on Ridge Road near Spencer Trail in the Shanty Bay area.

Oro-Medonte Fire and Simcoe County Paramedics also responded to treat and assess injuries. The pedestrian was later brought to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre before being airlifted to a Toronto-area trauma centre with life-threatening injuries.

Ridge Road was closed near Spencer Trail from 10:10 p.m. till just after 3:40 p.m. for an on-scene police investigation. The OPP confirmed to Barrie360 that the vehicle and driver did remain at the scene, but did not offer any further details.

The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the OPP's Central Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team.

Police say charges have not yet been laid.
