Barrie Police have arrested a 29-year-old man they identified as part of their investigation into a murder that happened in the area of Bayfield Street and Dunlop Street West around 11:30 Friday morning.
An officer made the arrest in the area of Toronto Street and Dunlop Street West just after 2 p.m.
Police say they were called for a report of an injured male lying on the ground in the area of the Five Points intersection. Upon arrival, officers discovered the 36-year-old victim from Barrie had suffered a stab wound. He was rushed to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
According to investigators, the man was last seen with the victim before police were contacted, and then spotted leaving the area. He was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, black trackpants, blue shoes, and a black backpack.
Police say he was later spotted in the area of Worsley Street and Owen Street, removing the red sweatshirt, and then wearing a black t-shirt, and carrying two backpacks.
The service is urging anyone with information or video footage from the area to contact the Barrie Police Major Crime/Homicide Unit.
Bayfield Street is blocked from Collier Street to Dunlop Street for the police investigation. An alley off Bayfield just north of Dunlop is also taped off.
