Residents and visitors to the Ramara Centre will soon have a new accessible outdoor space to enjoy, as the Township of Ramara moves ahead with construction of a pavilion designed to provide a shaded, barrier-free gathering place for the community.
The project is being supported through the Government of Canada's Enabling Accessibility Fund, with $72,476 in federal funding helping bring the pavilion to life.
Mayor Basil Clarke said the addition will build on the growing role of the Ramara Centre as a hub for recreation, community programming and events.
“The Ramara Centre property has become a true hub for recreation and community activity, with people of all ages coming together for sports, programs, camps, library services and community events. The new pavilion will be another great addition to the property, providing an accessible, welcoming space where people can gather, connect, and enjoy.”
The pavilion is the latest in a series of improvements at the Ramara Centre. Early this year, the township opened a new playground adjacent to the facility, adding another recreational space for local families and children.
The property is also home to the Ramara Public Library, summer camps, soccer programs, youth flag football and a variety of other community activities. Rehabilitation work on the site's baseball diamond was also completed this fall.
Township officials say the combination of amenities creates opportunities for residents of all ages and abilities to stay active, enjoy the outdoors and connect with others in the community. The accessible pavilion is expected to further enhance those opportunities by providing a comfortable gathering area close to many of the site's recreational activities.
Construction is anticipated to be completed by mid-October.
