"A witness reported observing a male suspect smash the rear driver’s side window of a vehicle in a Cundles Road East parking lot," police said in a news release.
The owner told police he had left the cash in the centre console.
Investigators believe the suspects are watching customers withdraw money, following them, and waiting for an opportunity to steal the cash.
Police are offering advice to the public to avoid becoming a victim of such thieves:
- Never leave cash or other valuables unattended in your vehicle
- If withdrawing large amounts of money, go directly to your destination
- Always be aware of your surroundings
- If you believe you are being followed, drive to a safe location and contact police
- Immediately report any suspicious activity or people to police
