A 31-year-old Barrie woman is dead after a multi-vehicle collision in Dufferin County on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened around 3:10 p.m. in the area of County Road 124 and south of 20th Sideroad in the Township of Melancthon.

Dufferin OPP say the crash involved seven vehicles, with one being a transport truck.

"The initial investigation revealed that multiple passenger vehicles were stopped northbound County Road 124 in a construction zone," OPP stated in a release. "A tractor-trailer entered the construction zone and collided into the rear of the line up of vehicles."

Police say the Barrie woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"The female was travelling with her infant child who was transported by ambulance to a local hospital," OPP continued. "The infant was later transported by ambulance to a children's hospital with non-life-threatening injuries."

OPP say a 67-year-old man was sent to a local hospital with serious injuries, and later air-lifted to a Toronto area trauma centre.

They added that a 45-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

County Road 124 was closed for roughly ten hours for an investigation.
