#Trashtag: This Internet Trend Is Cleaning Up!

A viral trend that's sweeping the nation
#Trashtag

June 5th is World Environment Day and what better way to help out than by "recycling" one of the best trends gaining traction this year.

The internet can be a cold place and anonymity can, unfortunately, bring out the worst is people. However, thanks to this amazing internet trend we are seeing a fantastic number of contributions in cleaning up beaches, parks, or any other place you can think of, all over the world.

While this hashtag was started way back in 2015, it really started to gain traction and garner a lot of attention in 2019. Websites like Reddit, Twitter, and Instagram were chock full of wonderful people cleaning up their neighborhoods, towns, and cities. The challenge is quite a simple one: go to an area you want to clean up, take a before picture, take an after picture, then post it with the hashtag #Trashtag! It's amazing to see such a simple concept making such a huge impact!

Where do you come in? Well, we want to keep this trend going by asking you to do the same. Head out with garbage bags in hand and take on the challenge! Send us your before and after pictures of a place in Barrie that you helped clean up and we will feature all the photos in an article in June!
