In case you haven't heard, one donation of blood can save up to three lives but blood donations don't last forever, they have a shelf life. This is why new and returning donors are needed more than ever.
Once a unit of blood is donated, a clock starts ticking because after 42 days that blood will no longer be usable. This is why an even distribution of donors are needed throughout the year. If a goal isn't reached on a certain day, the impact is felt 42 days later.
Three particular days that see a huge drop in donations are Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, and New Year's Eve. December 24th and Dec 31st have a combined goal of 106 units but are currently sitting under 10 scheduled appointments each. December 26th isn't looking much better with only 12 appointments scheduled with a goal of 48 donations.
If you can make it out to donate blood on any of these days (or any days at all), it really is the greatest gift you can give this holiday. Below are the holiday hours for the key dates where donations are needed.
December 24th - 10 AM to 2 PM
December 26th - 3 PM to 7 PM
December 31st - 10 AM to 2 PM
