File this one under "unexpected". In a pleasantly surprising turn of events, it looks like we'll be getting the fourth film in the Matrix series a little earlier than expected.
After fans got a surprise announcement in 2019 that a new Matrix film was being filmed, development of the project was going a lot quicker than anyone expected with a 2021 release date being announced. After some troubles in 2020 (surprise, surprise) the film was delayed until 2022 and for the time being, that appeared to be that.
However, despite all the challenges the crew has faced, Warner Bros has announced that they have pushed up the Matrix 4 to a December 2021 release date! Even though it's still over a year away, with all the delays we've seen over the past 6 this one is definitely a nice win!
