Much more than just a sport, people live and breathe hockey in Canada and it's no secret it's a deep part of our culture and identity. For the over 350,000 new people who call Canada home each year, hockey is a way to make meaningful connections in their new community.
With the fast-paced nature of the game, following along with all the action and lingo can be challenging at first for those who speak English as a second language. While hockey games have long been broadcast in English, French, and Punjabi, Molson Canadian and Sportsnet have partnered up to bring Canadians a special broadcast that will be streamed in 7 additional languages.
The 7 languages selected are the most commonly spoken in each Canadian city with an associated NHL team: Cantonese, Mandarin, Hindi, Vietnamese, Tagalog, German, and Arabic.
"Canada is among the most multicultural nations in the world, and what an incredible thing it could be to intersect the pride we have in our country’s game with the pride we have in the diversity of its people,” said Joy Ghosh, Senior Brand Director for the Molson family of brands.
The broadcast takes place on April 17th and there are two different games you can catch: Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Vancouver Canucks at 7 PM and Edmonton Oilers vs. Winnipeg Jets at 10 PM.
