Orillia OPP seize unmarked cigarettes after ALPR system alerts of possible suspended driver

Orillia OPP say they seized unmarked cigarettes after their Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system alerted them to a possible suspended driver.

OPP were patrolling Colborne Street East and West Street South on Thursday around 10:30 a.m. when they received the alert.

"Upon initiating a traffic stop, officers confirmed the male driver to be suspended for Remedial and Unpaid fines," officers stated in a release.

"Further investigation, officers located 60 Cartons of 200 unmarked cigarettes."

A 39-year-old Oro-Medonte man faces the following charges:

  • HTA 53(1) Adult Driving while under suspension X 2
  • TTA 29(2) Adult Possess unmarked Cigarettes
  • TTA 29(1) Adult Possess unmarked cigarettes for sale

He is scheduled for an appearance in Orillia court, and his vehicle was impounded for 45 days.
