Driver involved in Highway 400 crash charged, allegedly assaulted, threatened medical staff

A 59-year-old Elmvale man is up on a number of charges after Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a multi-vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday on Highway 400 in Tay Township.

According to OPP, shortly after 7 a.m., officers were dispatched to the crash in the southbound lanes, south of Quarry Road.

One of the motorists, who was driving a pickup truck, was taken to an area hospital by paramedics for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

Police say the driver was treated by emergency room staff and there was an interaction in which a physician was allegedly assaulted and a nurse was allegedly verbally threatened.

The accused has been charged with the following:

  • Failure to stop after accident
  • Dangerous operation
  • Assault
  • Uttering Threats - Cause death or Bodily Harm

The suspect was released from custody with a September court date.
