Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a fail-to-remain collision in Springwater Township after a pedestrian was allegedly struck and killed by a transport truck.

Police say around 2:40 Wednesday morning, emergency crews alerted police that the body of a man was found at the side of Highway 26 between Hanmer Road East in Barrie and Carson Road.

No vehicle was located when officers arrived.

"During the investigation, the driver of the transport truck was identified and located. The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released when available," police said in a news release on Wednesday afternoon.

The road was closed for the investigation but has since reopened.

Police have not released the identities of the victim and truck driver.

Investigators ask witnesses or anyone with information about the incident, including dash camera footage, to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
