Library services will be limited at the Barrie Public Library's downtown location from Monday, Nov.4 to Tuesday, Nov. 12, to accommodate flooring remediation in the lobby entrance.
While the building will be closed, the library will be providing services from the Express Pick-up window on Owen Street, with the exception of Tuesday, November 5. That day, all library locations will be closed for an all-staff training day.
“We know how important library services are to our community so there’s never a great time to close,” said Christopher Vanderkruys, Director of Corporate Services. “Unfortunately, due to the nature and location of the work, it requires us to close the building. We are looking forward to the resolution of this project that will extend the life of this beautiful building.”
During the closure, staff will provide services from the Express Pick-up Window on the Owen Street side of the building beside the book return slot. Patrons will be able to pick up holds, request items, pick up themed grab bags of library materials, and print up to 10 pages for no charge. Express Pick-up appointments can be booked for quick pick-up of items, and returns will be accepted 24/7 through the outdoor return slot.
All library locations will be closed on Tuesday, November 5 for an all-staff development day.
“It’s important for our staff to get together once each year to learn, share and upgrade our skills,” said Lauren Jessop, CEO of the Barrie Public Library. “When we ask our members about their favourite part of the library, they always say that it’s our helpful staff. This day gives us a chance to say thank you for their hard work and do some team building. We’ve planned for it to take place during the downtown library closure so we can minimize the disruption to our community.”
Residents are reminded to take advantage of the library’s online services, including the Digital Library, cloudLibrary, Busy Bundles and Wireless Printing.
Painswick and Holly will continue to offer full services during the downtown closure, except November 5. Downtown is expected to reopen on Wednesday, November 13 as long as there are no unexpected delays.
