Environment Canada has lifted the Winter Storm Warning for the Barrie and Collingwood area, through Innisfil to Toronto.
It's been replaced with a Winter Travel Advisory.
A Blizzard Warning remains in place for northern Simcoe County into Muskoka and into Dufferin and Grey Counties.
Mitch Meredith at Environment Canada says the wind is shifting today and will bring lake-effect snow to areas around Georgian Bay, including Barrie. "There's still going to be some blowing and drifting snow off of exposed areas, you know, fields and things. We're still going to have the winds out of the west gusting probably 60-70, maybe even up to 80 kilometres an hour this evening. So that could cause some problems."
If you can postpone your Christmas travel until tomorrow, the wind is expected to be more like 20-30 kilometres per hour. There might still be blowing snow in some areas, just not as severe.
"We're kind of transitioning from the snow with the low-pressure system, to getting into more lake-effect coming off of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay," says Meredith. "Blowing snow and then squalls will very likely work their way down from Parry Sound into Barrie, probably this evening or late this evening, and possibly swinging through a lot of areas by tomorrow morning."
