The South Simcoe Police and Ministry of Transportation (MTO) conducted commercial motor vehicle enforcement Monday in Bradford West Gwillimbury, which led to a number of penalties against some drivers.
Officers and inspectors entered the joint initiative with the goal of ensuring that commercial vehicles operating on roadways are safe and compliant with provincial regulations, according to South Simcoe Police.
As a result of the effort, 14 commercial vehicle inspections took place leading to 10 vehicles being removed from service and the roadways. Also, 33 provincial offence notices were issued to drivers and there were two licence plate removals.
"Unsafe commercial vehicles pose serious safety risks to all road users," South Simcoe Police said in a news release. "Both drivers and company owners share the responsibility of ensuring that their vehicles meet safety standards and are operated in a safe manner on our roadways."
