Ontario Provincial Police have located and spoken with the driver of a silver sedan they were looking for as part of a murder investigation in Midland.

Police say the driver is considered a potential witness and was not involved in the shooting.

The sedan was identified in the area of King Street and Little Lake Park, and police say the information provided by the public following an earlier appeal helped investigators track down the driver.

18-year-old Tryce James of Etobicoke was found suffering from gunshot wounds when police arrived at a King Street apartment complex shortly after 8 p.m. on Friday, July 31.

Officers were responding to reports of gunshots.

James was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators believe the shooting was targeted.

Police continue to seek photographs, video recordings, including surveillance and dashcam footage, from anyone who was in the area of Little Lake Park, King Street and surrounding roadways between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026.

"Even footage that may appear insignificant could assist investigators in establishing timelines, identifying additional witnesses and advancing this investigation," police stated in a news release on Wednesday.
