Altercation with weapon at Orillia beach leaves person with serious injuries: OPP

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a 16-year-old after police responded to a report of an altercation at a beach in Orillia.

Officers were alerted around 4:30 p.m. Monday of individuals involved in an altercation where a weapon was used.

One person was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, police said.

OPP say the investigation is continuing as they look to identify more individuals who might have been involved.

They said this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety.

The suspect, who is from Orillia, was charged with aggravated assault and three counts of failing to comply with a sentence.

The youth remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
