A rural community in Nova Scotia has been rocked by a mass shooting that has left at least 10 people dead and others injured. The dead include RCMP Constable Heidi Stevenson, a 23-year veteran of the service, a wife and mother of two young children. A second RCMP officer has non-life threatening injuries.

Police said at a news conference late this afternoon the gunman is also dead. They warned that there could be other victims that have not been found. The shootings took place over a wide area. Police also found burned structures and vehicles.

Police have identified the gunman as 51-year-old Gabriel Wortman.

The bloody rampage began late Saturday in Portapique, Nova Scotia, west of Truro. The suspect led police on a chase along a highway Sunday morning and it ended near a gas station north of Halifax just before noon local time.

Police said Constable Stevenson was killed in the line of duty responding to the active shooter situation.

Investigators also revealed the gunman was dressed in an RCMP uniform and was driving a mock-up of an RCMP vehicle.

Reports indicate the gunman worked in the dental industry and made dentures.
