Barrie Chamber of Commerce announce Women in Business award finalists

'It really is a celebration of all the amazing female entrepreneurs we have in the city'

The Barrie Chamber of Commerce announced the finalists for the Women in Business Awards during a press release at the Barrie Chamber of Commerce office on Tuesday, March 22.

The chamber says this awards program aims to honour local women who have shaped the community.

A luncheon will be held at Liberty North on April 27 starting at 11 a.m., where the winners will be announced. It will be the first time in two years the event will take place in person, the others being conducted virtually due to the pandemic.

Crista Winterkorn, co-owner of LCDC Colour & Coatings Inc, is a finalist for the Woman of the Year: Woman in Trade award, and says being nominated as a finalist means a lot.

“I go to work every day, that’s what I care about is making my customers happy,” Winterkorn said to Barrie 360.

“I don’t go out there looking for accreditation or anything else like that. And then to have this kind of surprise, it’s really heartwarming, it’s humbling.”

Paul Markle, Executive Director of the Barrie Chamber of Commerce, who spoke at the press release, says the Women in Business Awards has been one of the premier events in town for many years.

“It really is a celebration of all the amazing female entrepreneurs we have in the city, and there are many,” said Markle. “If you consider the leadership of the hospital or the college over the years, our keynote speaker, Claudine Cousins, we really lead this community with strong women.

“In our community, there’s an environment that empowers women to do well, and we want to continue to bolster that.”
