Barrie Hosts The 4th Annual Anthony Acchione Memorial Lacrosse Tournament

The Barrie Minor Lacrosse Association is playing host to the 4th annual Anthony Acchione Memorial Lacrosse Tournament this weekend. 40 teams across 5 different age groups are doing battle for honour of raising the Acchione Memorial Trophy.

Anthony Acchione was one of the driving forces behind the creation of the new Barrie Bombers association in 2013. Anthony’s leadership and vision were essential to the growth of Barrie Minor Lacrosse. Acchione passed away in 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Anthony Acchione’s wife, Vanessa, and their 3 boys were on hand for the opening ceremony. Anthony & Vanessa’s nephew, Brodie Cameron, plays for the Tyke 1 Barrie Bombers and took the ceremonial opening face off before his team battled Orangeville for first spot in their pool. Barrie was victorious by a score of 7-5, and move on to the semi-final where they’ll face Whitby.

The tournament continues until Sunday at the Holly Recreation Centre and East Bayfield Community Centre.
