Barrie police arrested a man following multiple vehicle break-ins at a carpool lot, including one in which the owner was inside sleeping.
Officers found out about the incident at the Essa and Ardagh Roads lot on Sunday shortly after midnight.
"Police were advised that a male had just broken a window to a car parked in the lot," officers said in a release on Monday.
"The unknown suspect then reached into the car and removed some personal belongings from the centre console while the owner, who was initially asleep in the car, awoke, and chased the suspect into a wooded area on the south side of Essa Road."
Police say the canine unit assisted and around 2:00 a.m. a 36-year-old of no fixed address was located and arrested.
"Six additional vehicles that had been parked in the same carpool lot were entered after they too had their windows broken," officers said.
"The male was transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where the investigation continued and eventually concluded after he was formally charged with Mischief over $5000 (7 counts) and Fail to Comply with a Probation Order."
He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Barrie court in April.
