Barrie Police arrest man in connection to overdose death last week

Innisfil man facing manslaughter, trafficking charges

An Innisfil man is facing a manslaughter charge in connection to an overdose death late last month.

Barrie Police say a number of people gathered at an Innisfil home early last Tuesday morning, where alcohol and illegal drugs were consumed. One man at the party went into medical distress after ingesting what was later determined to be fentanyl, supplied to him by another attendee according to police. Nobody called 911 despite signs of overdose, and the man’s health continued to deteriorate.

He was eventually taken to hospital by a few party-goers, but police say it was too late; attempts to revive the 25-year-old man failed and he was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.

A 36-year-old man turned himself into Barrie Police on Thursday. He has since been charged with drug possession and trafficking as well as manslaughter. He will appear in Barrie court later this month.
