Barrie Police cleared in death of man arrested for public intoxication

SIU says death was result of drug overdose prior to arrest

The Special Investigations Unit has cleared Barrie Police in the death last fall of a man arrested during a disturbance near Dunlop and Toronto Streets.

While being processed at the police station in September of last year for being intoxicated in a public place the 55-year-old man appeared to fall into medical distress. He was taken to hospital where he died several days later.

The SIU has determined the man died from complications related to an overdose of pills taken prior to his arrest.
